Our Heritage of Innovation
Lennox was founded in 1895, in Marshalltown, lowa, by Dave Lennox, the owner of a machine repair business for railroads. Dave builds and markets the industry's first riveted-steel furnace.
Dave Lennox decided to sell the furnace business and was purchased by D.W. Norris, editor and publisher of the local newspaper. He incorporated the operation as Lennox Furnace Company, and proceeded to sell 600 furnaces in the company's first year.
Lennox expands for the first time, building a warehouse in Syracuse, New York. Two years later a factory is added.
Lennox pioneers the introduction of a forced-air furnace for residential heating.
During the war, the company's production included not only heating equipment for military use, but also parts for aircraft and bombs.
Lennie Lennox, Lennox's icon, came to life. His image helped spread the word about the Lennox Furnace company during the 1940's and 50's.
Lennox establishes operations in Canada and expands its product line with the introduction of residential central air-conditioning systems.
Lennox establishes an international division with a facility in Basingstoke, England and sales offices and warehouses in Holland and Germany.
Lennox was the first to manufacture packaged direct multi-zone rooftop units for heating and cooling beginning in 1965.
"Dave Lennox" appears in his first Lennox advertising campaign with L.A. actor Bill Tracy in the role.
Lennox develops the first two-speed hermetic compressor, making possible significant energy cost savings in residential and commercial air conditioning.
Lennox develops and manufactures the industry's first high-efficiency gas furnaces.
Lennox International Inc. is established as the parent company for Lennox Industries Inc. and future acquisitions under the ownership of the Norris family.
Lennox International expands into the commercial refrigeration and heat transfer markets with the establishment of Heatcraft Inc. Heatcraft implements a 48-hour coil replacement program for commercial air conditioning systems.
Dallas, Texas became the Lennox World Headquarters. Many functions of Lennoxs' five U.S. sales divisions were centralized here as part of the Project 21 reorganization.
Lennox introduces CompleteHeat(TM), the first combination space and hot-water high-efficiency heating system by a major HVAC manufacturer.
Lennox Global Ltd. (LGL) is established to expand the company's presence in worldwide commercial air conditioning, commercial refrigeration, and heat transfer product markets.
The Beacon Control System eases installation and maintenance of refrigeration system problems.
LGL enters into joint venture agreements in Europe and Latin America and makes acquisitions in Asia.
Lennox International completes an Initial Public Offering becoming a public company on July 29, 1999.
LII launches new corporate logo to reflect worldwide growth.
